This past week was the final week for the Arizona Fall League. This fall, baseball prospect fans were treated to some excellent individual performances by the top prospects in baseball. We’ve been tracking them week by week on the Baseball Farm. Here are our picks for the final week of the AFL.
Here are our Prospects of the Week for November 13 through November 19, 2017:
Hitter of the Week
CF – Ronald Acuna – Peoria Javelinas (MLB Parent: Atlanta Braves)
This kid rocketed up to the top of everyone’s prospect list with an amazing 2017 campaign. He collected pretty much every piece of hardware along the way, so it is only fitting that he earned our final POTW honor for 2017. Acuña starred in the AFL championship game, going 2-for-4 with 4 RBIs en route to racking up the AFL MVP honors. He also hit safely in every other game during the week, including a 2 HR effort against Surprise on November 11. It is going to be a blast to see what this kid winds up doing in the bigs next season.
3B – Zach Green – Glendale Desert Dogs (MLB Parent: Philadelphia Phillies)
13 total bases in 3 multi-hit efforts this week.
Pitcher of the Week
RHP – Ryan Atkinson – Salt River Rafters (MLB Parent: Arizona Diamondbacks)
Atkinson played his college ball at the University of Cincinnati, and had a pretty strong 2017 campaign between A(Adv), A(Full), and AA ball (9-10, 3.30 ERA, 1.17 WHIP). He finished off his 2017 with a strong final outing on November 13 against the eventual league champions, the Peoria Javelinas. Atkinson buzzed through 5 innings of work, allowing no earned runs with 2 hits and 3 walks. Atkinson also struck out 7 batters in a very strong Peoria lineup.
RHP – T.J. Zeuch – Peoria Javelinas (MLB Parent: Toronto Blue Jays)
Zeuch started the AFL Championship game for Peoria, picking up the win in 5 2/3 innings of work.
RHP – Walker Lockett – Peoria Javelinas (MLB Parent: San Diego Padres)
Pitched 6 innings of 2-hit ball with 6 strikeouts against Scottsdale on November 15.
