On Wednesday, the Minnesota Twins announced their field staff for their minor league clubs for 2019.
Ray Smith, who has been a staple on the Elizabethton Twins staff, will be in his 33rd season on the Elizabethton Twins staff with 26 of those coming as a manager. During that time, he has a career record of 1,015-667 with 14 first place finishes in 24 seasons.
Joining Smith on the staff will be pitching coach Ray Salazar along with Jeff Reed, who will serve as the teams hitting coach. Takashi Miyoshi returns to the staff as a coach, his second season with Elizabethton. Also joining the staff will be Matt Kalies as he will serve as the team’s trainer and Connor Derrickson joins the staff as well and will serve as strength and conditioning coach.
Salazar spent 2018 between Double-A Chattanooga and the GCL Twins. Reed will enter his 18th season as the clubs hitting coach.
The E-Twins are coming off of back-t0-back Appalachian League championships, both were sweeps. In 2017 the E-Twins defeated the Pulaski Yankees (2-0) and in 2018 they defeated the Princeton Rays (2-0). Both championships coming under Ray Smith.
