The Daily Farm Report (7/20)

Welcome to the July 20th installment of The Daily Farm Report! We rake the news for each organization’s top prospects and give you a digest with some commentary for you greedy prospectors to enjoy. Here’s some recent news and highlights:

Erich Uelmen
Cubs #17 by MLB Pipeline
Baseball Farm Roto #140 Overall

Uelmen got tuned up a bit in the start, but overall he’s been a solid performer in a Cubs farm that looks awfully depleted this season. His FIP is now up to 4.31 in 5 starts in the A-Advanced Carolina League. He’s being challenged, so let’s see if he can make the necessary adjustments.

Isan Diaz
Marlins #7 by MLB Pipeline

A well-deserved promotion for Diaz, who has hit .308/.427/.531 over his last 38 games. Diaz was part of the Marlins return in the Christian Yelich trade. He’s 22 and getting his first crack at AAA ball. He’s got promising power potential (60 FV power for some outlets), but the 30-grade hit tool needs some work. Still an intriguing prospect to watch and see if he can figure things out at the next level.

Fernando Tatis Jr.
Padres #1 by MLB Pipeline
Baseball Farm Roto #135 Overall

Tatis injured his left thumb sliding head-first while attempting a steal in yesterday’s game. The team thinks the injury isn’t serious, but we’ve already seen fellow top prospect Luis Robert derailed this season by multiple thumb injuries. Fresh off turning heads at the Futures Game over All-Star Weekend, Tatis is rising up some prospect lists, even appearing as the #1 overall prospect in baseball on Keith Law’s most recent rankings.

Clint Frazier
Unranked by MLB Pipeline
Baseball Farm Roto #23 Overall

Hopefully, this is nothing too serious. Frazier wasn’t feeling well heading into the game, and felt light-headed after diving to make a play in the field in the first inning. Frazier’s name has popped up in nearly every trade rumor involving the Yankees recently. He’s been excellent at the plate in 2018, and is currently our #23 overall MiLB hitter this season. The Yankees just don’t seem to have a place for the kid in their outfield at the moment. A trade could have a significant positive impact on his fantasy baseball value.
