Opening night of the Appalachian League was celebrated Tuesday with a walk-off by Elizabethton to win 3-2 over the Bluefield Blue Jays at Joe O’Brien Field.
Eric Rivera doubled with one out in the eighth. It drove in the game-tying run Steward Berroa who had reached on a walk before stealing second. Rivera advanced to third on a ground out and scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch.
Rivera was drafted in the 14th round (417th overall) by the Toronto Blue Jays of the 2019 MLB Draft.
Elizabethton got the last laugh.

Tyler Webb had a walk-off two-run double with two outs in the ninth inning that gave the Twins the victory.
Four pitchers in all made an appearance for the Twins rallying for 11 strikeouts on the night. Prelander Berroa got the start and went 4.2 innings, walking three and striking out seven.
Elizabethton and Bluefield meet for the second game of the series on Wednesday night. First pitch scheduled at 6:30, pitchers are TBD.
