1. Pittsburgh Pirates

Kumar Rocker, RHP

School: Vanderbilt
PL Contributor: Joe
The presumptive favorite to go 1.1 for the better part of a year and change, Kumar Rocker is the most famous player in the draft, and probably the best pitcher in the draft as well. He works with primarily a three-pitch mix consisting of a four-seam fastball in the 92-95 range that’s touched 99. The heater has plenty of run and some good vertical movement as well. Rocker possesses two distinctly different breaking balls as secondaries in his potential double-plus slider and a projectable 12-6 curveball. He’s worked on a changeup that lags behind the other three offerings. Rocker has the body, stuff, and pedigree teams covet. General Manager Ben Cherington had an impressive 2020 draft selecting supreme college performer Nick Gonzales and we have no reason to believe he’ll stray away from the college route with Rocker on the board. Suddenly, the Pirates have a farm of arms consisting of Rocker, 2020 draftees Carmen Mlodzinski and Jared Jones, as well as 2019 1st rounder Quinn Preister.
