Elite defensive outfielder has made offensive progress and is now knocking on the door of the majors
From the moment he stepped on the field as a prized July 2 signee out of the Dominican Republic, Cristian Pache has flashed elite defensive skills and a double-plus arm no matter where he plays in the outfield. He began really adding to his 6’2″ frame before the 2018 season and furthered that before the 2019 offseason, allowing him to truly impact the ball, and he’s not sacrificed any of his defensive ability in adding positive weight.
At the plate, Pache has developed his eye at the plate, working his patience to the point of a consistent 8 BB% or better rate throughout the season and posting a sub-20 K% in Triple-A. At just 20 years old, he certainly has the ability to add to this skill as well while also improving his overall offensive production. For fantasy, he may not be a big producer initially as his power currently plays more into the gaps (36 doubles, nine triples, and 12 home runs in 2019) and he’s a very good baserunner, but not a great base stealer (eight steals in 19 attempts in 2019). His glove will be something that could end up opening the 2020 season in Atlanta, however, and his offense will be a bonus early on, akin to the development of Yadier Molina, who didn’t even post a 100 OPS+ until his fifth full season.
