I’m not going to write a bunch of bull here to sell you on Dominguez as the 1.1 in the First Year Player Draft. I haven’t seen him in person. Few have. I’ve never seen him performing his craft in an actual competitive baseball game. But I’m in a lot of dynasty leagues, I interact with a lot of other writers, and one thing is true: No player on this list has the trade value Jasson Dominguez has in dynasty right now. Do Andrew Vaughn or even CJ Abrams present a case? Certainly, but none can match the current helium and excitement around the prospect they call “The Martian”. The scouting reports are gushing, speaking of five tools and drawing hyperbolic comparisons. I’ll take the bait and ride the hype train.

Among other sortable columns, we’ve included a combined ADP of all players from mocks and drafts across the industry. Any player with a ‘999’ under said draft means he was not selected there and not all drafts and mocks were FYPD specific.

An 11th-round pick out of a Florida JuCo, Harris split time between the AZL and Short Season Vermont in his pro debut. Super-patient approach (BB% >10.0) led Harris to an OBP over .400 at each stop. He only slugged .345 during his 23-game stint in the NY-Penn, and he spent the majority of his time at first base. It’s a strange profile, but getting on base is still a skill that can get you places in the A’s organization.

Left hander out of Fresno City College was spotted by Jason Pennini during his time in the AZL this summer. Jason liked his fastball, changeup, and curveball, with each pitch flashing above average during the outing. However, he was unable to maintain his velo, so Jason pegs him for a middle relief role in the future. Still worth a follow in the event his stamina improves with professional conditioning and the Dodgers developmental system getting their hands on him.

Spencer Horwitz – 1B/OF, Jays

Kid out of Radford was an Appy League post-season All-Star on the back of his strong performance in 51 games for Bluefield this season (.330/.395/.471). In college, he showed a good batting eye, taking more walks than strikeouts in his junior year. He’s likely to play a multi-position role for Lansing in the Midwest League this year, where we can watch and see if he’s able to develop some pop to go with his patience.

Cam Devanney – SS, Brewers

Good sized (6’1″, 195) shortstop out of Elon, Devanney posted an OPS over .800 in both the AZL and the Pioneer League in his pro debut. Also flashed both power (7 home run) and speed (17 SB in 25 attempts). He flashed some good pop in college as well (.257 ISO his junior year). Good reports on his footwork and arm at SS as well. He could be a sleeper.

Hunter Gaddis – P, Indians

Fifth round selection by Cleveland, an org that has developed a great rep for developing pitching prospects in this range recently (Bieber R4, Civale R3, Plesac R12). Gaddis is tall (6’6″) and was drafted as a sinkerballer that also throws a slider, curveball, and changeup. Tore through the lower levels in a 33-inning pro debut, with reports his velocity ticked up to 97 mph. Spent time with Team USA. He’s worth a late punt just based on Cleveland’s track record and the velocity improvement.

Michael YaSenka – P, Cardinals

Was Cardinals’ minor league pitcher of the month in July (0.56 ERA). Posted good K% in both college and pro debut, he’s a late round follow for the 2020 season.

Cleveland only used him as a reliever in his pro debut last summer, but there’s a chance that was just a measure to limit his innings after a hefty workload (16 games, 100.1 innings) in his senior season of college. Throws both a two-seamer and four-seamer along with a slider and changeup, so there’s a starter’s arsenal here. Keep your eye on him in 2020 to see if Cleveland decides to work him as a starter.

“Tank” is a 5’9″, 233 lbs former gymnast and was the Pioneer League MVP in 2019. He split time between the outfield and first base for Grand Junction this season, where he just beat up on the competition. Raw pop is legit, as Simpson hit 18 home runs and slugged .667 in the hitter-friendly confines of the Pioneer League. Posted a .274 ISO his senior season for Oklahoma State. He also stole five bags last season because, hell, why not?! One of the most interesting names on this list and probably the only guy in baseball with his frame that can do a standing backflip.

30th round choice was a teammate of Michael YaSenka’s at EIU. Govern was assigned to the AZL, where he throttled the competition as one of the oldest players in the complex. Jason Pennini reported that he’s got around 40 raw power and is a good enough defender to potentially stick at third or develop into a super utility player in the future. After the AZL, he was improbably promoted to Triple-A Omaha, where he managed to hit two home runs in six games.

His college fastball velocity sat in the upper-80s, but his plus changeup makes him worth a late round flier. Was 4-1 with a 1.45 ERA in a 43.1 inning pro debut. He could dominate the lower levels with high strikeout rates generated from the change piece, but McKendry probably needs to unlock some more velocity to become relevant for us dynasty leaguers. He has a strong, athletic frame that might allow that to happen.

Hokie selected in the 19th round won the Gulf Coast League MVP last summer. He’s got a powerful frame (6’2″, 220 lbs) and his left handed swing translated well for power against much younger GCL competition (.625 SLG). The patient approach he displayed in college carried over to pro ball, as he walked more than he struck out in his GCL debut. BA called him one of the more advanced college bats in the draft. The Midwest League will serve as a slightly better gauge of his talent, but he’s worthy of a very late flier in deep drafts.

In the 2018 draft, the Tigers struck gold with a lefty out of Seattle U (Tarik Skubal). The Orioles took fellow Seattle U alumnus Jake Prizina in the 31st round. Prizina easily handled the GCL, posting a 45:5 K:BB ratio and 1.15 ERA over 39 innings. D1Baseball.com’s analytical model had Prizina as their #11 ranked draft-eligible college pitcher based on his 2018 and 2019 collegiate stats. Scouting info on Prizina is awfully scant, so put him on your watchlist to see how he develops in 2020.

The Rockies always have some Pioneer League statistical leaders thanks to their hitter friendly home ballpark at Grand Junction. However, Koss feels a little bit different to me. This UC-Irvine product is lanky and wiry, showing good strength and footwork both at the plate and at short. Our own Tom Mussa rated his defense as double plus, and he was the Big West Conference defensive player of the year in 2019. Finished with a .332/.447/.605 line with 11 home runs and 10 steals in 53 Pioneer League games. There is five-tool potential here, so he’s worth a late round sleeper pick.

Laweryson, a former Maine Black Bear, was an Appy League All-Star during his time with Elizabethton this season. Six of his last seven outings on the season were scoreless, including a 15-strikeout performance. He’s primarily a fastball/changeup guy, but mixes in two shapes of breaking balls as well. Follow him once he hits full season ball to see if his mix holds up against tougher competition.

The outfielder was a JuCo transfer to Western Kentucky in 2019 and set Conference USA on fire. Hitting .398/.483/.805 with 22 home runs for the Hilltoppers. We caught Sanford in the New York – Penn this summer and he was impressive in batting practice but showed poor players discipline for a college player taken in the third round. As he was often caught in the middle between breaking balls and fastballs. Due to his lack of top conference pedigree there might be a learning curve here. The power is still worth a flier in super deep leagues, but IÂ’d ignore the draft slot to a degree.

A former 29th rounder of the Cleveland Indians back in 2016, Steer broke out in the Cape Cod League over the summer of 2018, leading up to a stellar Junior campaign with Oregon. The infielder slashed .349/.456/.502 with six homers. His standout play earned him PAC-12 first team honors and a third round pick from the Twins. A strong defender with a refined approach the real concern with Steer from a fantasy angle is the lack of power and speed. Sounds like a utility type bat that could add a little power later in his career, but it’s an outside possability.

Obviously there are some concerns about the quality of competition and Ward didn’t silence any of those critics with an average debut for Ogden.
